About
Cole Design Studio, Inc. is an award winning residential design firm based in Beaufort, South Carolina. Ninety percent of CDS’s business is residential design, but can handle small commercial project under 5000 sq. ft.
Cole Design Studio was founded in 1991 by Paul R. Cole (current President of the AIBD Lowcountry Chapter). It has been in operation since and has designed custom homes throughout the Lowcountry in Hilton Head, Bluffton, Ridgeland, Port Royal and Beaufort. A few years back Paul changed the name to Cole Design Studio to more reflect the business and his clientele.
Cole Design Studio provides healthy comfortable, livable custom Lowcountry designed homes as well as selling stock homeplans – for both homeowners and builders alike. CDS is a diverse company providing design services based on the need of the client, whether it be a small addition or a complete home.
CDS can work with an energy consultant specializing in a “Total Systems Design Approach” to healthy, cost effective, energy efficient structures. Our custom designs are fully drawn and documented with constant input from the client. With today’s new codes you need someone who understands structure, home health, as well as design. CDS can help select it all – from structural & energy efficient alternatives through the last yard of drapery fabric. We will work closely with the engineers and the interior designer to get the design you are after.

Paul Cole has a BS in Architectural Engineering Technology from the Southern College of Technology in Atlanta Georgia. With over 25 years of experience in renovation, additions and new construction he knows what is needed to get the job done right. He is a Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD). The President
Paul Cole is a member of The American Institute of Building Design (AIBD). Paul is past President of the AIBD South Carolina Society, past Eastern District Director for the AIBD, as well as Past External Vice-President for AIBD. He now serves as the current President of the AIBD LowCountry Chapter. This national organization of building designers is a valuable resource when keeping up to date with the changing trends in the design industry. Paul attends seminars and conferences several times a year to keep up to date on energy efficiency and green building. Find out more about the AIBD by visiting:
